Practice Nurse Services

Our Practice Nurses are available Monday to Friday by appointment starting at 8:30 am. They offer the following services:

  • Blood pressure checks and heart disease risk assessments
  • Asthma and Diabetic Clinics
  • Family planning and smear tests
  • Healthy lifestyle guidance
  • Travel advice and immunisations
  • Dressings and stitch removal
  • Phlebotomy services

Phlebotomy Services

Our phlebotomists are available for blood tests at the following locations:

  • St Davids Medical Centre, Pentwyn: Monday and Tuesday mornings
  • Pontprennau Medical Centre: Wednesday from 13:30 to 15:30 and Friday from 8:30 to 12:00

Health Visitors

Based at St Davids Medical Centre, Pentwyn, our Health Visitors offer advice on caring for children under 5, including immunisation, feeding, and behavioral concerns. They run baby clinics on Tuesdays from 13:00 to 14:30. Alternatively, they can be contacted by phone at 02920 735003 during the week.

Contraception Services

We provide a comprehensive range of family planning services, including:

  • Coil and cap fitting
  • Pill advice
  • Implants
  • Depot injections
  • Male and female sterilisation
  • Pregnancy counselling

Emergency Contraception

If you require emergency contraception, please contact the Practice as soon as possible. Our Receptionist will arrange an appointment for you at the earliest available time.

Coil and Implant Clinics

Before your coil fitting or removal, the clinical practitioner will ask you to complete a consent form specific to the procedure. Please watch the videos below to understand what to expect during your family planning appointment and review the different consent forms you will need to sign.

NHS Oral Contraception Available at Local Pharmacies

Patients can access NHS oral contraception through many local pharmacies by booking an appointment. This convenient service allows you to get contraception without needing to visit your GP.

  • Lakeside Pharmacy: No GP appointment needed! After a clinical assessment, you can start or continue oral contraception with guidance from a pharmacist. Service is FREE and available at:

This is a fantastic way to access contraception quickly and easily through your local pharmacy.

Maternity Care

Ante-natal clinics are held twice weekly by appointment only and is run by the Community Midwife.

Speech Therapy & Hearing Tests For Children

Minor Surgery

The practice is authorised to perform minor surgical procedures, such as the removal of cysts and moles, as well as joint injections. Please consult with a doctor for an initial assessment before proceeding.

Referrals

As part of further investigations your GP or nurse may decide to refer you to another clinic for more specialist care.

If you do not receive an acknowledgment letter from the relevant clinic regarding your referral please contact the surgery so that we can investigate further and make sure your referral has been processed correctly.

Smoking Cessation

A referral to a smoking cessation counsellor is available. Please ask at reception for more information.

Travel Vaccinations

If you're planning to travel outside the UK, you may need to be vaccinated against some of the serious diseases found in other parts of the world.

 

Non-NHS Services

The National Health Services provides most healthcare to the majority of people free of charge, but there are exceptions. GPs are self-employed and are contracted to provide NHS general medical services for their patients.
